Apple is expected to launch four iPhones this year. The first half of the year may see a second-generation iPhone SE. In the latter half of the year, the company is rumored to unleash three iPhones. Two of them is speculated to feature OLED display panel whereas the third one will be an entry-level model featuring a LCD screen. Fresh information has revealed that the LCD iPhone for 2018 will be packed with a 6.1-inch screen from Japan Display.
According to the Commercial Times, a Taiwanese publication the LCD iPhone is expected to house the Full Active display that JDI had unveiled in June last year. Hence, the LCD iPhone featuring JDI’s screen is expected to offer FHD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is capable of delivering a pixel density of around 320 to 330 ppi. One discrepancy with the new information is that JDI’s Full Active display measures 6.01 inches whereas the report claims that the LCD iPhone will have 6.1-inch screen.
The below image of the Full Active display shows that the LDC iPhone featuring it could be surrounded by ultra-thin bezels of 0.5mm. Full Active LCDs have been also used by some of the Chinese smartphone OEMs such as Xiaomi for the Mi MIX 2 smartphone. The LCD iPhone is expected to be priced between $700 and $800. However, previous rumors had claimed that it would be costing between $650 and $750.
The LCD iPhone arriving this year is also rumored to feature a notch like the iPhone X. Instead of the stainless-steel frame found on Apple’s first OLED iPhone, the upcoming entry-level iPhone is expected to feature an aluminum frame. It is unlikely to feature a dual camera module and it is rumored to lack 3D Touch feature.
The other two OLED iPhones of this year are expected to feature 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch display. The 5.8-inch OLED iPhone for this year is expected to launch as a successor for the 2017’s iPhone X. Both 2018 OLED iPhones are expected to sport stainless-steel frame and dual camera. A recent report had revealed that the large-sized 6.5-inch iPhone would be arriving with dual-SIM support and a native storage option of 512 GB. Other reports have also stated that the 2018 iPhones won’t be featuring Touch ID sensors as they are going to be equipped with Face ID and TrueDepth Camera.
